Got tired of the soft images from my Sigma 70-300 APO and decided to try something else- acquired an old-ish Tamron 28-300 aspheric, model 285, (c/w free MZ-50 body...) cheap enough to try, and so far I'm quite impressed. It seems a touch sharper and more contrasty than the Sigma at 300mm; I guess Sigma were more interested in chromatic issues than actual imaged with the APO?

Yeah, I've got a -A 50/1.4. Amazing thing, but damned hard to use. I'd love an FA, to gain af.

Yeah...i hear ya.  I have the adaptor with AF confirm and it's OK...but Live view is better.  Not really good for action shots.  But when focused the old glass is awesome.

Couple of test shots from the big Tamron (which I've subsequently found won a number of awards in '99 and 2000); I'm pretty impressed.

And yes I know the horizon isn't level in the first.

Picked up a new boy at the shelter Saturday. That's Ollie on the counter and my 12 pound tabby, Diesel, on the floor.

No. It isn't PS'd - Ollie's 20+ pounds.

BTW: Diesel's a long hair and Ollie is a short hair...

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.
H. L. Mencken

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the state can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie ... The truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the state." --Joseph Goebbels, minister of propaganda in Nazi Germany, 1933-1945
